About The Race
Fool's Gold 100 is the 7th race in the National Ultra Endurance Series
Expect lots of singletrack and doubletrack with a fair dose of gravel road grunts. There are a couple of longer sustained climbs, but the rollers will probably be the ones to get you. Yes, it's August in Georgia, but in the past years we've had excellent weather..it is in the mountains, after all, with most of the course being under the trees in the shade. Be prepared to ride hard..and drink a few Yazoo, Sweetwater, and Terrapin brews. With the thousands of dollars in cash and prizes, racer and volunteer schwag, all of the essential amenities (i.e. optional lodging with meals & beer) all weekend, we think this one will be on your race calendar for good!
We are excited to welcome Yazoo Brewing Co. into the mix this 2010! Yazoo will be sponsoring the King and Queen of The Mountain this year. First overall Man and First overall Woman in the 100 & 50 mile race to reach Coopers Gap (top of the first climb) win Yazoo beer!
The guys from Sweetwater Brewing Co. will again be giving a case of Sweetwater 420 to the first racer to cross the finish line at 4:20pm...this could be a good sprint to watch.
...and,last but certainly not least...the guys from Terrapin Beer will, once again, be sponsoring the Turtle Award, a case of Terrapin brew for the absolute last person to finish the entire 100 and 50 mile race. DFL never sounded so good, eh?
cafe:ine cafe will be onsite early Saturday morning selling delicious hot coffee and iced coffee drinks throughout the day. Bring some extra cash..

There will be SAG stops. 100 mile racers will pass through the Start/Finish after Lap 1 and head out for another lap of the same 50 mile course. That mid-way point at the Start/Finish is NOT a supported SAG stop but you are free to leave supplies there (i.e. cooler, spare parts--anything except another bike). There will be a designated area for you to leave your stuff before the race starts in the morning.
A waiver must be turned in Friday night before you can get your race number and bag. You can send a friend up on Friday night to pick your race stuff up as long as they bring your signed waiver. You are responsible for getting your race stuff from your friend and getting your SAG bags to us by 6:15 am on Saturday morning. There is no number pick-up on the morning of the race.

FAQ
What time does the race start?
100 miler starts at 7am. 50 miler starts at 7:15am.
Is there any tent-camping available?
There is no tent camping available at Camp Wahsega (the Race Start/Finish), however there is primitive camping in the national forest. Keep in mind, that you only get the onsite hot showers, beds, and the meals if you select the Onsite Bunkhouse Lodging option when you register.
Do you need volunteers?
Yes! The volunteers make this race...we need your help! Please contact namrita@55nine.com if you would like to volunteer.
Are Pets Allowed?
No pets are not allowed at Camp Wahsega during the event. Pets are not permitted in the bunkhouses. Pets ARE permitted at SAG stops, and anywhere offsite from Camp Wahsega. Sorry about this, we love dogs too.
What are the rules for support?
Racers can only be supported by other racers or support personal at aid stations. There is no support allowed from non- racers or friends and family jumping from aid station to aid station. This rule is in place to limit a potential traffic overload on the Forest system roads. If you would like to support someone you can support everyone!!!
SAG Stations and Drop Bags
When you check-in on Friday, you will receive 3 large ziploc bags in which you can place your personal items that you want to send to up to all 3 SAG stops. SAG bags must be dropped in the designated spot by 6:15am on race day if you want it to make it to the station(s). You are not required to use the SAG bags. We will have other products as follows:
SAG 1: Water and Hammer HEED
SAG 2/3& 4: Water, Gatorade, Hammer HEED, and assorted snacks (PB&J, bananas, cookies, etc.)
Reminder: The mid-way (50 mile point) is not a supported SAG for the 100 mile racers, but there will be a designated spot for you to leave coolers or supplies (NO SPARE BIKES ALLOWED!)
100 mile racers will visit SAG 1-4 twice as the route is two loops of 50. SAG bags will return with the SAG volunteers when their shift is over and you have already passed through (once for the 50 milers, twice for the 100 milers). They will get them back ASAP, but keep in mind, some of you may not get your SAG bag back until several hours after you finish.
Distance between SAG stops:
Start - SAG 1 - 11 miles
SAG 1 - SAG 2 - 8 miles
SAG 2 - SAG 3 - 11 miles
SAG 3 - SAG 4 - 8 miles
SAG 4 - Finish - 12 miles

Do I need to be present on Friday to check-in?
Yes. There is no check-in on Saturday AM, due to the early AM start on race day. You are free to come up on Friday anytime from 4-9pm to sign your waiver, pick up your race number and race bag. If you choose to use them, you can drop your SAG bags on Saturday by 6:15am at Camp Wahsega in the main Recreation Hall. FRIDAY CHECK-IN IS AT DAHLONEGA WHEELWORKS from 4-9pm. Download the 2010 waiver here.
Will I need lights?
We have cutoffs so everyone is off the course by dark. If you are planning on cutting it close, it would be wise to send a light to the last SAG stop just in case you have a mechanical in the last 8 miles of the course and need light. The cutoffs are as follows: SAG 2- must arrive by 5pm; SAG 3- must arrive by 7pm; SAG 4- anyone going out of SAG 4 past 7pm MUST HAVE LIGHTS. The cutoff at SAG 4 is 8pm. Anyone not making a cutoff at SAG 2, 3, or 4 will be directed on an alternate route to the Finish Line.
