SOUTHERN CROSS IS

The first endurance cross race in the Southeast. You can use cyclocross bikes or mountain bikes though the course will favor cross bikes. The course will be mainly gravel roads with some spectator-friendly cyclocross goodies thrown in to distinguish it from a mountain bike or road race.

PLACE

The race will start and finish at Camp Wahsega in Dahlonega, GA. The CX course will be completely on Camp Wahsega's acre property with the gravel road section taking you out onto the National Forest roads.

DATE AND TIME

The middle of winter. The race has been rescheduled for January 23, 2010. The weather may be beautiful or it may really suck. No one really knows. Be prepared. The race starts at 10am Eastern. Onsite registration/packet pick up is from 8:00-9:30am at Camp Wahsega.

COST

Entry fees are $70 per person.

CATEGORIES

Open Women, Open Men, Singlespeed

REGISTER

We are limiting the field size to a total of 150, so hurry up! There is no mail-in registration. You can only register online through BikeReg.com and you are only guaranteed if you register online by January 5.

PRIZES

First place in the Open Men & Women categories are guaranteed a $500 cash payout each. Additional cash prizes will be allotted as registration/sponsorship allows.

ALCOHOL POLICY

Alcohol is fine, we will have some beer provided by our wonderful beer sponsor (who is still TBD). However, we ask that you DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. If you plan on drinking, please arrange for a designated driver.

COURSE

Hard. There will be steep climbing, descending, a couple mean run-ups, and "natural barriers". Do not underestimate the difficulty of this event. The weather, if nasty, can add another element of difficulty. The course will be around 54-ish miles (for real this time) with the largest percentage of it on gravel roads. There will be one SAG. You bring your supplies if you want to use the drop and we will transport them to and from the SAG.

GOODIES

For your race entry you will get: A sweet 2010 edition T-shirt, a killer race, free beer, hot showers, and a post-race HOMEMADE ALL YOU CAN EAT CHILI meal (vegetarians will be accommodated).
